About Book
The Text Book of Pharmaceutical Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry is a comprehensive and systematically designed resource tailored for pharmacy students and professionals. It begins with a detailed introduction to pharmaceutical analysis, covering various analytical techniques and methods for expressing solution strength. The book thoroughly explains the concepts of primary and secondary standards, providing a strong analytical foundation. It includes an in-depth discussion on errors, their sources, classification, and methods to minimize them, ensuring accuracy and precision in pharmaceutical analysis. The section on impurities highlights their definition, types, sources, and regulatory importance, along with limit tests for common impurities such as chloride, sulphate, iron, arsenic, and heavy metals. Acid-base chemistry and buffer systems are elaborated with clear explanations of pH, buffer equations, and their pharmaceutical significance. The text also covers physiological electrolytes and their role in maintaining fluid and acid-base balance in the human body. A dedicated section on acid-base titrations explains theories, indicators, and practical applications, including the assay of ammonium hydroxide. Non-aqueous titrations are presented with emphasis on solvents and estimation techniques for weak substances like sodium benzoate. The book also includes precipitation titrations and gravimetric analysis, highlighting classical methods such as Mohr’s and Volhard’s. Complexometric titrations using EDTA are explained with practical examples like magnesium sulphate and calcium gluconate estimation. Redox titrations are discussed in detail, including permanganometry, iodimetry, and cerimetry. The gastrointestinal agents section provides information on acidifiers, antacids, and antimicrobial compounds, including their properties and uses. Radiopharmaceuticals are introduced with basics of radioactivity and applications of important isotopes in medicine. The book also emphasizes safety measures in handling radioactive substances. A separate section on miscellaneous compounds covers expectorants, emetics, haematinics, antidotes, and astringents. Each topic is presented with relevant pharmaceutical applications and examples. The content is structured in a clear and logical sequence, facilitating easy understanding. The inclusion of theoretical concepts along with practical applications makes it highly useful for academic and competitive examinations. The book integrates core principles with real-world pharmaceutical relevance. It serves as a valuable guide for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Overall, the textbook provides a balanced blend of analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences, making it an essential reference for the field.
