It provides fundamental knowledge of protein therapeutics and their role in the treatment of various diseases. Recombinant DNA technology is explained systematically to develop a clear understanding of genetic manipulation techniques. Important concepts of gene cloning and expression vectors are presented with their applications in biotechnology. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is discussed as an essential molecular technique used for amplification and analysis of genetic material. The book also explains monoclonal antibodies and hybridoma technology along with their therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Enzyme immobilization and its industrial applications are included to highlight the importance of enzymes in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The section on genetic engineering provides detailed knowledge of different methods used for gene transfer and recombinant product development. Production of recombinant insulin, human growth hormone, interferons, erythropoietin, and blood clotting factors is discussed in an understandable manner. Recombinant vaccines and their significance in the prevention of infectious diseases are also covered. Modern concepts of gene therapy and stem cell technology are presented with their pharmaceutical and therapeutic applications. CRISPR-Cas technology is introduced as an advanced tool for precise genome editing and biomedical research. The fermentation technology section explains industrial fermentation and its different types and applications. Design and essential components of fermenters are described along with media formulation and sterilization techniques. Upstream and downstream processing are discussed to provide an understanding of complete bioprocess development and product recovery. The production of antibiotics, enzymes, vitamins, organic acids, alcohols, and single-cell proteins through fermentation is systematically presented. Biotransformation and its pharmaceutical importance are also included to broaden the understanding of industrial biotechnology. The book introduces bioinformatics and explains the importance of biological databases and sequence alignment techniques. Genome mapping and the Human Genome Project are discussed in relation to modern genomic research and healthcare. Emerging fields such as pharmacogenomics, personalized medicine, proteomics, and metabolomics are presented to familiarize students with advanced biotechnology. Applications of artificial intelligence in biotechnology, drug discovery, and computational biology are also highlighted. A dedicated section on vaccines explains live attenuated, inactivated, toxoid, recombinant, DNA, and mRNA vaccines. The process of vaccine development, quality control, storage, and maintenance of the cold chain is described with practical relevance. Sera, antisera, immunoglobulins, and regulatory requirements for biological products are discussed to strengthen knowledge of immunobiological preparations.
