About Book

Text Book of Applied Biostatistics and Data Analytics for Pharmaceutical Sciences provides a comprehensive introduction to statistical concepts and modern data-analysis techniques used in pharmacy and healthcare research. The book is specially designed for students, teachers, researchers, and professionals working in pharmaceutical sciences. It explains the fundamental principles of biostatistics in a simple, systematic, and application-oriented manner. The introductory section describes the scope and importance of biostatistics in drug development, clinical research, quality control, and public health. It provides a clear understanding of different types of data, variables, scales of measurement, population, samples, and sampling techniques with suitable pharmaceutical examples. The book also explains frequency distributions, graphical presentation of data, measures of central tendency such as mean, median, and mode, and measures of dispersion including range, variance, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. Basic probability concepts and important probability distributions, such as binomial, Poisson, and normal distributions, are described with relevant examples. Sampling distributions, the Central Limit Theorem, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, Type I and Type II errors, p-values, and statistical significance are presented in an easy-to-understand manner. Parametric tests, including the Z-test, Student’s t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA, as well as non-parametric tests such as the chi-square test, Mann–Whitney U test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and Kruskal–Wallis test, are covered comprehensively. Their practical applications in pharmaceutical research and clinical studies are highlighted throughout the book. Correlation analysis using Pearson and Spearman methods, linear regression, and the basic concepts of multiple regression are also discussed for predicting pharmaceutical and clinical outcomes. The principles of experimental design, including randomization, replication, blocking, and introductory factorial designs, are explained with practical relevance to the optimization of pharmaceutical formulations and processes. A distinctive feature of the book is its dedicated section on data analytics using Python. Readers are introduced to Python programming for handling and analyzing pharmaceutical datasets, along with the use of Pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib for data management, numerical computation, and visualization. The book also provides guidance on importing, cleaning, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting research data. Overall, it serves as a valuable academic and professional resource for applying biostatistics and data analytics in pharmaceutical, clinical, and healthcare research.
