About Book
The Text Book of Advance Pharmacology-II is a comprehensive and concept-oriented resource designed for advanced students of pharmacy and related health sciences. The book provides an in-depth understanding of endocrine pharmacology, explaining the molecular and cellular mechanisms of action of major hormones such as growth hormone, prolactin, thyroid hormones, insulin, and sex hormones. It integrates therapeutic aspects by covering antithyroid drugs, oral hypoglycemic agents, oral contraceptives, corticosteroids, and drugs affecting calcium regulation. A major strength of the book lies in its detailed coverage of chemotherapy, including antimicrobial agents like β-lactams, aminoglycosides, quinolones, and macrolides, with emphasis on mechanisms of action and drug resistance. Antifungal, antiviral, and antitubercular drugs are discussed with clinical relevance. The text also includes chemotherapy of protozoal infections, helminthiasis, and cancer, offering a clear understanding of modern therapeutic strategies. Immunopharmacology is another important section, introducing immune mechanisms, mediators of inflammation, hypersensitivity reactions, and pharmacotherapy of asthma and COPD. Immunosuppressants and immunostimulants are explained in a structured manner. Gastrointestinal pharmacology covers antiulcer drugs, prokinetics, antiemetics, antidiarrheals, and drugs for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. The book highlights chronopharmacology by discussing biological rhythms and applications of chronotherapy in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, asthma, and peptic ulcer. Free radical pharmacology explains oxidative stress and its role in diseases like diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer, along with antioxidant protection. Finally, recent advances in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and diabetes mellitus make this book a valuable, updated, and exam-oriented reference.
