About Book

The textbook “Advanced Pharmacology-II” is a comprehensive guide that covers multiple specialized domains of pharmacology in depth. It begins with Endocrine Pharmacology, where the molecular and cellular mechanisms of hormones such as growth hormone, prolactin, thyroid, insulin, and sex hormones are explored in detail, along with therapeutic agents like anti-thyroid drugs, oral hypoglycaemics, oral contraceptives, corticosteroids, and drugs affecting calcium regulation. The next section, Chemotherapy, elaborates on antimicrobial drugs such as β-lactams, aminoglycosides, quinolones, and macrolides, explaining their mechanisms and resistance. It also discusses antifungal, antiviral, and anti-tuberculosis agents. The continuation of chemotherapy introduces drugs used against protozoal infections, helminthiasis, and cancer therapy, highlighting advances in treatment strategies. The Immunopharmacology unit introduces immune pharmacology, focusing on cellular and biochemical mediators of inflammation, immune response, hypersensitivity, and allergy. It also reviews pharmacotherapy for asthma and COPD, while covering immunosuppressants and immunostimulants. Moving further, Gastrointestinal Pharmacology deals with drugs for peptic ulcers, prokinetics, antiemetics, antidiarrheals, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome, thus covering the pharmacological management of major GIT disorders. The book also includes Chronopharmacology, emphasizing circadian rhythms and their therapeutic applications in cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma, and peptic ulcer. Another significant section is Free Radical Pharmacology, which explains the generation of free radicals, their pathological roles in diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer, and the protective role of antioxidants. Finally, the book provides insights into Recent Advances in Treatment of chronic and complex diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, and diabetes mellitus, highlighting novel therapeutic strategies and modern approaches in drug development. Overall, this textbook serves as a valuable resource for advanced learners of pharmacology, offering a balanced integration of molecular mechanisms, clinical applications, and recent innovations across various domains of drug therapy.
