Medicinal plants are plants with active components that can be used to cure the disease or healing the pathogenic attack on plants or animals. Almost all plants are medicinal but we know a few one that are common to our locality. Some medicinal plants are used as vegetable products and have good marcket value. So, cultivation and harvesting may be a good use on medicinal plants. Medicinal plants and their indirect uses are also important because of academic purposes. Medicinal plants are used by the departmental gardens and also used for research purposes. So, study, research and extension activities broadly related to medicinal plants may be used for various purposes.

Dr. Debabrata Das & Dr. Pampi Ghosh
Debabrata Das (b.1969), Ph.D. in Botany (Ecology) is presently working as Associate Professor and
Head, Department of Botany, Government General Degree College, Lalgarh, Jhargram, W.B. He is
presently working in the field of Environment and Sustainable Development programme. He has
authored more than 145 scientific research papers, 4 books and 15 edited books. Primary aim of his
work is to identify ecological problems and to solve these through proper management. He is trying
to work on knowledge dissemination activities and biodiversity conservation programme under
different capacities with students and experts from school education to higher education level. He
was involved in different Medicinal Plants Conservation Areas (MPCAs) research in West Bengal in
connection with Forest Department, Govt. of West Bengal.
Pampi Ghosh, (b. 1974), Ph.D. in Botany (Mycorrhizae) but specialization with Angiosperm Plant
Taxonomy is presently working as Assistant Professor (S-3) and Head, Department of Botany, Seva
Bharati Mahavidyalaya, Kapgari, Jhargram, W.B. She is presently working in the field of soil-plant-
microbial interactions, ethnobotany, medicinal plants, mycorrhizae, green practice, organic farming,
and plant taxonomy. She is a Jhargram district mentor of MGNCRE programme ‘swachhta and
sustainability’ directed by MGNCRE, Govt. of India. She authored more than 46 scientific research
papers in national and international journals. She has published one book and 7 edited books.
Primary aim of her work is related to organic farming and waste management through green
technology.
