Pharmacology- I covers the core foundations of pharmacology, including general pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, routes of drug administration, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and essential principles of autonomic pharmacology, presented in a simple, logical, and student-friendly manner. Emphasis has been placed on concept clarity, mechanism-based understanding, and clinical relevance, avoiding unnecessary complexity while maintaining scientific accuracy. This book is intended not merely to help students score well in examinations, but to develop a strong pharmacological foundation that will support rational drug use and lifelong learning in professional practice. About Author
Dr. Vivek Dhir is currently serving as Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Punjab Multipurpose Medical Institute, Sehna, District Barnala, Punjab. He completed his M.Pharm (Pharmacology) from Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, and earned his Ph.D. from Chitkara University, Punjab. He has over six years of experience in pharmacy education and has published more than ten research and review articles in reputed national and international journals. He has also contributed a book chapter titled “Role of Free Radicals in Pathology” in an international publication. In addition, he is the author of a textbook, Human Anatomy and Physiology–II, prescribed for B.Pharmacy second-semester students. Dr. Dhir has served as an examiner and paper evaluator for the Diploma in Pharmacy program under the Punjab State Board of Technical Education, Chandigarh. He has presented more than five research papers at international conferences held at various locations. He also holds two published patents in the field of pharmacy. He is a life member of the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), the Indian Pharmacological Society, and the Indian Pharmacy Association (IPA). In recognition of his academic and professional contributions, he has received several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Shiksha Gaurav Puraskar and Medical Excellence Award in 2023, the World Education & Business Awards in 2025, and the Best Indian Global Personality Award in 2025.
Dr. Jitendra Chobdar is currently serving as the Principal of Global Pharmacy College, Kuchaman City, Rajasthan. He holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacy (Pharmacology) and is presently pursuing an MBA in the healthcare stream. He has over 10 years of teaching experience in pharmaceutical education. He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) from Shekhawati College of Pharmacy, Dundlod, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, and his Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) in Pharmacology from Vidyasthali Institute of Technology, Science & Management, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was awarded his Ph.D. degree by Bhupal Nobles’ University, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. Dr. Chobdar has successfully guided 13 students at the B. Pharm and M. Pharm levels and is a recognized Ph.D. guide at Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur, a government university. He has been associated with several Indian universities and institutions in academic capacities and is a member of professional bodies such as the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) and the Indian Pharmacy Graduates’ Association (IPGA). He has also served as an examiner for Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur, and various deemed universities. He has an appreciable number of research publications, including articles published in reputed national and international journals, along with popular scientific articles.
Dr. Monika Semwal currently holds the position of Associate Professor at Global College of Pharmacy, Gurgaon, Haryana. She has earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacy with specialization in Pharmacology and possesses over 9.5 years of teaching experience. She completed her Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from GISIPS College, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. She subsequently obtained her Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) in Pharmacology from Siddharth College of Pharmacy, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and was awarded her Ph.D. degree by CT University, Ludhiana, Punjab. Dr. Semwal has guided four undergraduate (B.Pharm) students and has a significant number of research publications to her credit, including articles published in reputed journals.
Mrs. Tholla Bhagyamma is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy. She earned her M.Pharmacy in Pharmacology from Sri Padmavathi School of Pharmacy and possesses over four years of academic experience in pharmacy education.
She is the holder of a patent (2024) for a Column Chromatography Apparatus for the Separation of Synthetic Compounds, reflecting her contribution to pharmaceutical research and technological innovation. In addition, she has contributed a book chapter to Principles of Medical Toxicology, thereby adding to the scholarly literature in the domains of pharmacology and toxicology.
Mrs. Bhagyamma has also served as an Examiner and Evaluator for D.Pharmacy, B.Pharmacy, and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) programs in Tirupati.
Mr. Sridharan Chellappan is presently working as Professor, Department of Pharmacology at The Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R. Medical University. He completed his B. Pharmacy from JSS College of Pharmacy, Ootacamund (1994) and M. Pharmacy through Government Counselling from KMCH College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He has over 20 years of teaching experience across Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate programmes in Pharmacology. His academic credentials include five research articles and ten review articles published in reputed national journals, and he has received the Best Paper Presenter award twice. He serves as an Evaluator for D. Pharm, B. Pharm, M. Pharm, and Pharm.D (theory and practical) for The Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R. Medical University and the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). He also holds one published patent related to Water Maze–based neurotoxicity assessment. Mr. Chellappan is a Life Member of IPS and APTI and has been honoured with Best Teacher (2022) and Best Community Pharmacist (2023) awards by TNARPWA. He has guided 10 M. Pharm and 25+ B. Pharm students. Additionally, he brings 15 years of pharmaceutical marketing experience with Zydus Cadila, Wockhardt, Kopran–Kramer, and Core Parenterals, contributing to the first-time launch in India of products such as Amlodac, Sparx, Pantodac, Globac-Z, and Wockadine Ointment. He was All India No. 1 Sales Performer (Zydus, 1997) and contributed to the first launch of plastic bottle IV fluids in India (1994). He also worked for five years as a Clinical Pharmacist in Bahrain, reflecting a distinguished and multifaceted professional journey in pharmacy.
