About Book

This book has been carefully designed in alignment with the principles of the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) to establish a strong academic foundation for pharmacy students in the early stages of their education. It introduces the core concepts of the pharmacy profession, including dosage forms, pharmaceutical calculations, and the expanding role of pharmacists within modern healthcare systems. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical, skill-oriented learning, the book effectively prepares students for advanced studies in pharmaceutical technology and professional practice. The content is organized into five well-structured units that follow a logical progression, beginning with the history and scope of pharmacy in India and advancing toward the scientific and applied aspects of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Initially, students are introduced to the evolution of pharmacy as a profession, the significance of pharmacopoeias and official standards, and the ethical responsibilities associated with pharmaceutical practice. This foundational understanding is further developed through practical topics such as prescription interpretation, pharmaceutical calculations, and the formulation of various dosage forms including solids, liquids, semisolids, and suppositories. Emphasizing competency-based education as envisioned by NEP 2020, the book integrates conceptual clarity with hands-on application. It aims to enable students to understand the development and scope of pharmacy, apply pharmaceutical calculations effectively, recognize the importance of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients in formulation design, and gain practical skills in the preparation and evaluation of dosage forms. Additionally, the book fosters the development of communication skills necessary for patient counseling and interprofessional collaboration, while instilling a strong sense of professional ethics, responsibility, and accountability.
