About Book
This book has been developed in accordance with the principles of the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) with the objective of providing a strong academic and practical foundation for students beginning their studies in pharmacy. It introduces learners to the fundamental concepts of the pharmacy profession, pharmaceutical dosage forms, and pharmaceutical calculations, while also highlighting the expanding role of pharmacists in modern healthcare systems. By integrating theoretical knowledge with skill-based learning, the book aims to prepare students for advanced subjects in pharmaceutical technology, pharmaceutics, and pharmacy practice.
The content of the book is systematically organized into five comprehensive units that guide students from the historical development of pharmacy in India to the scientific principles involved in the preparation and evaluation of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Initially, students are introduced to the origin and scope of pharmacy, the significance of pharmacopoeias and official standards, and the ethical and professional responsibilities of pharmacists. The subsequent units focus on practical aspects such as prescription handling, pharmaceutical calculations, and the formulation of solid, liquid, semisolid, and suppository dosage forms commonly used in pharmacy practice.
In alignment with the competency-based approach promoted by NEP 2020, the book emphasizes the application of knowledge to real-world situations. Students are encouraged to develop essential professional skills, including accurate pharmaceutical calculations, understanding the role of active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients, and gaining practical exposure to dosage form preparation and evaluation.
