About Book

Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry–I is a comprehensive textbook aligned with the latest Pharmacy Council of India BP 202T syllabus and tailored for undergraduate pharmacy students. It introduces organic chemistry fundamentals with strong pharmaceutical relevance, beginning with classification, structure, and properties of organic compounds and progressing to hydrocarbons, functional groups, isomerism, hybridization, reaction mechanisms, and stereochemistry. The book offers detailed treatment of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, haloalkanes, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and related derivatives, emphasizing IUPAC and common nomenclature, reactions, mechanisms, and structure–property relationships. Clinically and industrially important compounds are highlighted with their preparation, properties, uses, and applications in pharmacy. Core reaction mechanisms, including free radical substitution, SN1 and SN2 nucleophilic substitution, E1 and E2 elimination, addition, rearrangement, and pericyclic reactions, are explained step by step in a student-friendly manner. Key concepts such as carbocation stability, free radicals, Markovnikov and anti-Markovnikov rules, Saytzeff’s rule, tautomerism, and conjugation are clearly discussed to strengthen conceptual understanding. The text integrates qualitative tests, comparative tables, worked examples, and practical illustrations to support learning and examination preparation. Overall, the book bridges fundamental organic chemistry with pharmaceutical applications, ensuring conceptual clarity, academic rigor, and effective preparation for advanced studies and professional practice in contemporary pharmacy education and research.
