About Book
This book is designed in alignment with the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) to build a strong conceptual and professional foundation for pharmacy students at the beginning of their academic journey. It introduces core aspects of the pharmacy profession, pharmaceutical dosage forms, basic pharmaceutical calculations, and the expanding role of pharmacists within modern healthcare systems. By integrating conceptual clarity with skill-oriented learning, the book prepares learners for advanced studies in pharmaceutical technology and pharmacy practice.
The content is organized into five well-structured units that move systematically from the history, scope, and ethics of pharmacy in India to the scientific and practical principles underlying pharmaceutical preparations. Students are introduced to the evolution of pharmacy, pharmacopoeias, official standards, and professional responsibilities, followed by essential topics such as prescription handling, pharmaceutical calculations, and the formulation of solid, liquid, semisolid, and suppository dosage forms.
In line with NEP 2020, the book emphasizes competency-based education by linking theory with application. It helps students develop calculation skills, understand the role of active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients, gain hands-on insight into dosage form preparation and evaluation, enhance communication for patient counselling, and cultivate ethical and professional responsibility. Overall, the book supports holistic, multidisciplinary learning.
About Author
Dr. Ankur Srivastava has completed his B. Pharm from RRSCOP Amethi U.P and M. Pharm (Pharmaceutics) from RITM Lucknow U.P. He has done PhD in 2022 from AKTU, Lucknow. He has over 13 years of experience in Academics, Research and Administration in various Pharmacy Institutions. Presently Dr. Ankur is working as HOD in department of Pharmaceutics at Institute of Pharmacy, Dr Rammanohar Lohiya Avadh University, Ayodhya since October 2021.He Has published more than 25 national and international papers in reputed journals (SCI/ Scopus). He has filled 15 patents till date and out of which 12 Patents are Granted. He has Authored 7 books, 13 book chapters, and delivered several lectures in various conferences and seminars. He is involved in medical device development. He has around 12 Years of Research and Teaching Experience. He has guided various students for their M. Pharm and Ph.D. research scholar. He is Life time Member of Indian Pharmacy Graduate Association, (UP), and member of various organizing committee for national seminars. His primary research interests are in the field of Nanotechnology and Drug Delivery. Specifically, he is interested in nanosuspension, nanocapsules and solid dispersion area.
Dr. Deepti Dwivedi holds M. Pharm and PhD from Amity University, Lucknow. She has over 08 year of experience in Academics, Research and Administration in various Pharmacy Institutions. Presently she is working as Assistant Professor in department of Pharmaceutics at Institute of Pharmacy,Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow. She has credit of more than 32 research/review papers in various national and international Journal of repute, has more than 45 abstract in various Seminar & Conferences, attended more then 37 FDp. She is Life time Member of Indian Pharmacy Graduate Association,(UP), and member of various organizing committee for national seminars. She has also Published 09 Indian Patents, 2 german patents. Her primary research interests are in the field of Nanotechnology, Dermal drug Delivery and Drug Delivery. She is awarded researchers of the year award.She has organised National and International conferences. Ms.Dwivedi has an excellent track record and is actively engaged in teaching, research administration and service to her profession.
Ms. Deepika Kunwar holds a Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), and Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) from DIT University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. She has over eight years of experience in academics, research, and administrative services across various pharmacy institutions. Currently, she is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at the Institute of Pharmacy, Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow. Ms. Kunwar has excellent number of research/review publications in reputed international journals and abstracts published in seminar and conference proceedings. She has actively participated in various international conferences, four national conferences, and one professional workshop.
She has an excellent academic and professional track record and is actively involved in teaching, research, academic administration, and service to the pharmacy profession
Ms. Sadaf Arfi, is currently working as Assistant Professor in Department of Pharmaceutics, Era college of Pharmacy, Era University, Lucknow. She has an experience of more than 8 years as an academician and in research field at CSIR-CDRI (Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow). She did her B. Pharm and M. Pharm (Pharmaceutics) from Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University Lucknow Uttar Pradesh. She is pursuing Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Amity University, Lucknow. She has more than 15 research publications and book chapters in various reputed national and International SCI and Scopus indexed journals. She has two Indian and one International Patent. She has one book published on Social Pharmacy. She has given numerous oral and poster presentations, attended seminars, DST, AICTE sponsored workshops and conferences at National and International levels.
Dr. Reetu Yadav is an accomplished academician and researcher in the field of pharmaceutics. She holds a Ph.D. from K.R. Mangalam University, Gurgaon (2022) and an M. Pharm from BBDNIIT, UPTU, Lucknow. With over Ten years of teaching experience, she currently serves as an Associate Professor at College of Pharmacy,Integral university Lucknow.
Her research interests include nanotechnology, drug formulation, and herbal pharmaceuticals, with 25 publications in reputed journals. She has won awards for her contributions, including Best Poster Award in a National Seminar. Additionally, Dr. Yadav is a registered pharmacist and an active member of professional organizations like APTI and Vigyan Bharti.
She has also contributed to book chapters, patents, and student mentorship, guiding numerous B.Pharm and M.Pharm students. Her dedication to research and education makes her a prominent figure in the pharmaceutical sciences.
