About Book
Text Book of Advance Pharmacology–II is a comprehensive and updated resource designed for undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students. The book provides an in-depth understanding of advanced concepts in pharmacology with a strong emphasis on mechanisms of drug action and therapeutic applications. It begins with Endocrine Pharmacology, covering the molecular and cellular mechanisms of hormones such as growth hormone, prolactin, thyroid hormones, insulin, and sex hormones. The text further discusses anti-thyroid drugs, oral hypoglycemic agents, oral contraceptives, corticosteroids, and drugs affecting calcium regulation. The section on Chemotherapy explains the cellular and molecular mechanisms of action and resistance of important antimicrobial agents including β-lactams, aminoglycosides, quinolones, and macrolides. Detailed chapters on antifungal, antiviral, and anti-tuberculosis drugs provide a clear understanding of infectious disease management. The book also explores pharmacotherapy of protozoal infections and helminthiasis along with modern approaches to cancer chemotherapy. Immunopharmacology is comprehensively discussed with emphasis on immune responses, inflammatory mediators, hypersensitivity reactions, and immune-modulating agents. Special attention is given to the pharmacotherapy of asthma and COPD, highlighting current therapeutic strategies. The text includes detailed discussions on immunosuppressants and immunostimulants used in clinical practice. The Gastrointestinal Pharmacology section covers antiulcer agents, prokinetics, antiemetics, antidiarrheal drugs, and medications used for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. A dedicated chapter on Chronopharmacology introduces biological rhythms and circadian biology and their significance in drug therapy. Practical applications of chronotherapy in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, asthma, and peptic ulcer disease are thoroughly explained. The book further explores Free Radical Pharmacology, discussing the generation of free radicals and their role in disease pathogenesis. The contribution of oxidative stress to diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer is critically examined. Important antioxidant agents and their protective roles are also highlighted. The final section presents recent advances in the treatment of major diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and diabetes mellitus. The content is supported by scientific evidence and contemporary therapeutic approaches. Complex pharmacological concepts are presented in a simple and student-friendly manner.
