About Book
The Text Book of Advance Pharmacology–I is a comprehensive and systematically organized resource that provides a deep understanding of both fundamental and advanced pharmacological principles. It begins with pharmacokinetics, detailing the processes of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination, along with concepts of linear and non-linear compartment models and the clinical significance of protein binding. The pharmacodynamics section explains the mechanisms of drug action, receptor structure and classification, and the quantitative relationship between drug concentration and effect. The book further explores neurotransmission, including general mechanisms and detailed discussions on neurotransmitters such as adrenaline, acetylcholine, serotonin, dopamine, GABA, glutamate, and glycine, along with concepts like co-transmission and non-adrenergic non-cholinergic transmission. It provides an in-depth study of systemic pharmacology, covering drugs affecting the autonomic nervous system and neuromuscular junction with emphasis on pathophysiology, classification, mechanism of action, and toxicology. The central nervous system pharmacology sections include detailed coverage of anesthetics, sedatives, hypnotics, and drugs used in anxiety, depression, psychosis, mania, epilepsy, neurodegenerative disorders, and pain management. Cardiovascular pharmacology is extensively addressed through topics such as diuretics, antihypertensives, anti-ischemic and anti-arrhythmic drugs, heart failure management, hyperlipidemia, hematinics, and agents affecting blood coagulation including anticoagulants, fibrinolytics, and antiplatelet drugs. Additionally, the book includes a dedicated section on autocoid pharmacology, highlighting the physiological and pathological roles of histamine, serotonin, kinins, prostaglandins, and opioid autocoids. Overall, this textbook serves as an essential academic and clinical guide for pharmacy and medical students, offering a strong foundation for understanding drug action and therapeutic applications.
