This book consists of six chapters, each providing a comprehensive understanding of women’s empowerment in rural India, with a special focus on the role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). It explains how SHGs act as effective tools for social and economic upliftment. The study traces the origin and development of SHGs in India, particularly in Andhra Pradesh. It examines the socio-economic and demographic profile of SHG members and their living conditions. Using data analysis, it evaluates the impact of SHGs on income, savings, and decision-making power. The book concludes by highlighting key findings, challenges, and the importance of SHGs in achieving sustainable women’s empowerment.
About Author
Dr. S. Chittemma is currently working as a Degree Lecturer in Economics at K.H. Government Degree College, Dharmavaram, in Ananthapuramu District. She has over 23 years of rich teaching experience in education.
She completed her B.A. from K.V.R. Government Degree College for Women, Kurnool, and her B.Ed. from Sri Sankara’s College of Education, Kurnool, affiliated with Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. She obtained her M.A. in Economics from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuramu. She also qualified for the APSET in Economics conducted by Osmania University, Hyderabad, and earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuramu.
Dr.S. Chittemma is deeply committed to academic excellence and continuously strives for professional growth in the field of education. She has actively participated in numerous national and international seminars and has published several research papers in reputed journals.
