About Book

Microfinance is often called the lifeline of the poor — a catalyst that transforms dreams into realities with just a few thousand rupees. In a country like India, where a significant portion of the population resides in rural and semi-urban areas with limited access to traditional banking, microfinance has emerged as a beacon of hope. It has given rise to countless stories of resilience, entrepreneurship, and empowerment. This book, “Microfinance Schemes of the Government: A Catalyst for Inclusive Growth,” is an earnest effort to present a comprehensive overview of the role of microfinance in India’s economic and social transformation. From understanding the basics of microfinance to exploring the detailed mechanisms, government initiatives, impacts, challenges, and the way forward, this work aims to serve as a complete reference for students, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners alike. Each chapter is thoughtfully structured: Chapter 1 introduces the reader to the foundations and evolution of microfinance. Chapter 2 explores key government schemes that have reshaped financial inclusion. Chapter 3 explains the real-world implementation mechanisms and strategies. Chapter 4 assesses the socio-economic impacts across different sectors and regions. Chapter 5 concludes with a critical analysis of challenges and future prospects. Throughout the book, real-life examples, case studies, and updated data have been incorporated to bring authenticity and vibrancy to the discussion. This book would not have been possible without the inspiration drawn from the remarkable spirit of countless women, farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs who have rewritten their destinies with courage and hope. It is a tribute to their indomitable spirit.
