About author : Shyamal Bhattacharjee, born in 1977, in the city of Kolkata. He is a notable poet and novelist of contemporary Bengali literature. In addition to several poetry collections in Bengali, five of his novels have already been published there. The present novel A Poet in the Bardo his second novel in English language, the first being Shadows are Assassins published by the same Saraswat publication. He has been teaching English in a higher secondary school for the last 22 years. Apart from writing, he loves to sing and to run half marathons. He is also a karate black belt. About book : Shyamal Bhattacharjee's second English novel A Poet in the Bardo tells the story of a man who is dying in an accident. In those moments of death the man sees his whole life in some flashes wherein human concepts of space and time have no bearing. Even all the events that could have happened but did not happen in life become some miraculous visual experiences and lead him to overcome various bonds and obstacles towards a peaceful death. As the movement of a newly deceased soul towards a desired rebirth or void is described within the pattern of Tibetan Bardo Thodol or Book of the Dead, this novel also describes an equivalent experience. The amazing epicness of the language of that description belongs to Shyamal Bhattacharjee's own poetic style.
