About Book
Physical Pharmaceutics sits at an unusual crossroads in the B.Pharm curriculum. It is, on the one hand, a physical chemistry course — solubility equilibria, interfacial thermodynamics, colloid stability, flow behaviour, and particle physics all draw directly on the language of physical chemistry. On the other hand, every single topic in this book earns its place in the pharmacy syllabus because it explains something a pharmacist actually needs to know: why a drug does or does not dissolve, why a suspension separates and how to stop it redepositing as a hard cake, why an emulsion cracks, why a cream spreads under a fingertip but holds its shape in the jar, and why a tablet blend either flows smoothly into a die or jams the production line.
This textbook was written with that dual identity deliberately kept in view throughout. Each chapter builds its physical chemistry from first principles — deriving, not merely stating, the governing equations — but never leaves that derivation stranded in the abstract. Every chapter closes the loop back to a specific pharmaceutical consequence: a formulation decision, a quality-control test, a manufacturing process parameter, or a clinical outcome. Worked numerical examples throughout use realistic pharmaceutical values rather than placeholder numbers, and self-review questions are pitched to mirror the kind of reasoning university examinations actually expect.
